About The Denmark Pavilion in Paris

Introduction

During the Olympic Games in Paris, Denmark proudly welcomed locals and visitors to an innovative pavilion on the world-famous Champs-Elysées. Dubbed "The Denmark Pavilion," the 500 m² space showcased inspiring Danish projects — each innovative and creative —aimed at solving everyday, local, and global challenges.

Visitors experienced an interactive exhibition area filled with fun activities, games, concerts, and much more. The event programme was packed with immersive experiences that tickled the senses.

Together with the Ministry of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs, VisitDenmark led this initiative, which was supported by the philanthropic association Realdania and subsidised by The Trade Council.

We were proud to present Denmark during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, helping bring the organisers' vision of 'Games Wide Open' to life — a true celebration of togetherness and shared experiences.

The Denmark Pavilion was not an official National Olympic House.

Concept & Design

Nestled between the Maison du Danemark and Frederik’s Church, just off the iconic Champs-Elysées, the Denmark Pavilion was constructed within and around the existing premises.

The location was transformed into a Danish exhibition space, a collaborative effort by architects BRIQ and Lendager. The structure, thoughtfully crafted, seamlessly blended Danish innovation, green thinking, and lifestyle expression, creating an immersive environment that mirrored the essence of Danish culture.

In addition, the adjacent Frederik's Church was transformed into a cultural stage, hosting intimate concerts and special events, while also serving as a window to Danish life through captivating video installations.

Denmark Pavilion Chair

Designing products using upcycled materials – we imagined we could, and we did! We took empty beer kegs, old fishing nets, and discarded wood and transformed them into a versatile chair. This unique piece seamlessly shifted from dining to lounging, even doubling as stackable shelving or a component for pavilions.

Originally intended for The Denmark Pavilion during the Tokyo Olympics 2020, these chairs took on a different journey, traveling the world from Denmark to New York to Milan.

Most recently, the chairs returned to their original purpose as the foundation of The Denmark Pavilion in Paris 2024. Now that the Olympic Games have concluded, they will find a new home at the Fondation Danoise — a base for Danish students and researchers, offering a blend of Danish 'hygge' and cosmopolitan diversity in the heart of Paris.
