Visitor Center Stenvad Mosebrug

At Stenvad Mosebrug, you’ll literally dig into the peat and dive into the past, as the bog opens up a world of stories and experiences. Here, you can step back in time to experience the hard work, large families, and cold winters of life in the old bog worker’s house.

Peat – Not Nearly as Boring as It Sounds!

The peat train runs just outside the exhibitions in the old factory, and it takes you out into the stunning natural surroundings of the bog—a trip with an almost-guaranteed chance to spot deer, cranes, and red kites.

Inside the factory, you’ll witness firsthand the industrial adventure that built Stenvad and the bog industry - and kept all Danes warm during World War II. Check out the inventive blacksmith’s rail moped, the greedy bog owner’s millionaire’s spade, and get up close and personal with the peat itself - close enough to get your hands dirty!

The regional tapestry of Mosebrug is a treasure trove of craftsmanship, colors, and stories. Local weavers have woven 188 small and large tales into a 7 m² wall tapestry. Here, you can search for the death of the Huldremose Woman, weapon drops during the occupation, or the long-haired hippies of the 1970s communes. Many of these stories can be traced to the landscape surrounding the bog museum, so your visit doesn’t have to end when you leave the doors.

During high season, daily guided tours of the exhibition are included in your ticket. You’ll be in historically good hands as the museum’s skilled guides share tales of Bronze Age farmers' environmental disasters, a grumpy Roman visiting the boglands, and peat-related crime during the war—among many other stories.

Outside the factory, you can gather for old-fashioned games, hunt for coins with a metal detector, pan for gold, or simply enjoy a delicious ice cream in the sun.

Adventure and experiences come in earthy tones too!
