Trail of Ancient Time - Single Mounds at Mejrup Kirkeby
East of Mejrup Kirkeby are the unique single burial mounds that are characteristic of the West Jutland area. The single burial mounds are small, low highs from "single burial culture" (2800 BC - 2400 BC), a period at the end of the Peasant Age. They were built over a single tomb, but over time new tombs could be built upwards, which were then built a new high above. Although the tombs are characteristic of the West Jutland area, it is nevertheless rare to see a group of single burial mounds placed together.
There is an infoteboard at the Vigorgvej on the Viborgvej. The Vigeplassenen can be found on the right hand side as you drive from Mejdal Kirkeby towards the motorway.
