Rutsker Højlyng is part of the former high heath that was used as common pastureland.
The vegetation includes heather, juniper, birch and conifers. Abandoned stone quarries are visible in some places.
The areas many erratic boulders, left behind by retreating inland ice, are particularly remarkable and inolude Rokkestenen and Fabeldyret (20 and 30 tonnes respeotively).
A small area is a designated conservation area to preserve the erratic boulders and is managed 50 as to preserve the heather and juniper vegetation as it was during the high heath era.
